A trip of a thousand when I wrapped when I was pregnant was to of cloth diapers: I found some information on the Internet, I had read a few minutes, and saw some pictures .... enough, because if I say that I wrapped, I just wrapped. One day was too cold to go and see them in the shop, another day seemed too expensive, another day I'm lost in the cost / benefit calculation.
the desire to discover I've always been after the birth of Elizabeth, especially when I noticed these small aspects:
1. The disposable diapers are expensive, but cost just as much.
2. Infants need to be changed many times, but just as many.
3. The production of junk in the house has quadrupled with the arrival of Elizabeth.
4. disposable diapers give off a faint smell of oil, and this is also the only indicator that tells you whether they are wet or not, because the touch are always dry.
5. By what magic is possible that something always seems to dry wet?? I leave you to research the solution.
I do not think I would go very far alone, but in the meantime my friend has adopted belly, and since her much smarter than me (it is "much more" so many other things, but I tell you now J ) gave a jolt to stalled situation, and he helped her find the hooks and the certainties that were missing.
We contacted Serena, the mother kangaroo of this blog : a phone call, two words, see you at this time in my house. Amica I can not deny that we were surprised, we are all too accustomed to thinking that the free availability of people behind us is a trap. But no, Serena welcomed us into his house, showed us all the different cloth diapers, answered our questions, clarified the doubts (after all, his kicking for home living model of diapers .. .) and we explained how to gain access to a collective order of cloth diapers.
seen some prices moving in the internet, with this method we were able to buy 25 cloth diapers for a really good price, without fainting in short, that these days is no small thing.
I do not easily forget the morning of October, under the rain, I Amica to swap nappies for them of a color appropriate to their children (the pink and purple to me, greens and blues of her, a little yellow and red 'for one).
had no great expectations, honestly I was afraid of not being in constant use as it should, I feared it was too much for me, not having the soul of your home ... But I decided and try to engage, and this is my guide to how things are going .... Not being an integral for the night and the rest of the afternoon I still use my baby's disposable, and even sometimes when we go out and I'm not sure how long we're outside or if there is a possibility to change it. I used cloth diapers quickly rinse them and put them in a bucket that I keep on the terrace, baking soda and add a few drops of tea tree. The diapers are still in the bucket until it is full, then wash them in the washing machine at 40 degrees with less detergent, just percarbonate (I buy the super) and a few drops of essential oil to scent.
And after a few months I can tell you that :
- Elizabeth has not had diaper rashes since we use them.
- no longer see me reeling on the stairs dragging behind garbage bags of 10 kg. Time 10 kg in her arms I just Elizabeth, but that's another story.
- The housework has increased very little of: time to load a washing machine about every 4 days (3 minutes), time to hang the diapers to the washing line and rearrange (15 minutes) a quick rinse before putting them into the bucket (30 seconds per diaper).
- With cloth diapers, I learned how to use less detergent for washing machine and I discovered the power of vinegar as a softener (thanks to the high luuuuunghe phone calls in which they discussed it with vinegar, the aroma of mountain flowers, of leggings ... and many other things).
- 's initial investment has already helped me save a lot of money. While still using some disposable, I can afford the luxury of buying a package and make it last longer than 2 weeks. Nothing trips a super Saturday night, no bloated inventories, no trucks half-full boxes of diapers.
- I used cloth diapers (if washed) does not stink. For me stink more the disposable half a day if placed in the bathroom. try it.
I will not weary you with the discourses on ecology or world as a diaper washable helping to achieve sphincter control, not because they believe it, but because to me these have always been secondary. The springs that I have moved to using cloth diapers are the cost savings (you know, I'm stingy in) and the desire to know that the ass of my daughter is spoiled by a natural fabric and not from chemical crap. Both of my needs are fully satisfied!
I happened several times in recent months to talk to other mothers of my experience, and all I have seen so much interest, but also many doubts, concerns, similar to those that had made me wrap (But how much do they cost? Where can bring when they are dirty? is not challenging? stink?). If anyone is listening .... Take a stroll Blog Serena and remove your doubts (there are also videos very beautiful and clear!)
Ah ... just to point out: I will not receive credit or Serena, or any firm of cloth diapers are just happy to share a positive experience, believes that word of mouth moves a lot more of a transfer.
* this is the reaction of my mother, when he learned of my intention to use cloth diapers! J J
